Semi Antique Hand Made Heriz Persian Rug
Semi Antique Hand Made Heriz Persian Rug, 1930's.
The coral red ground displays numerous small geometric leaves radiating from an ivory hexagonal subfield with a ragged and barbed 12-point lozenge medallion and conforming red sub-medallion. Small green corner projections. Blue-black main border with diamond centered reversing turtle palmettes. Cotton foundation, medium weave. Good condition.
The Heriz weaving district in NW Persia (Azerbaijan province) has been intensely active from the 18th century onward, with literally millions of mostly medallion, mostly roomsize carpets in a primarily red/ ecru and navy palette.
