Most rugs and carpets from the Ferahan-Sarouk district in Arak province in western Persia are in medallion formats, but this good condition, well-woven piece shows n allover pattern of large and variously ;proportioned reserves in rust, cream and navy, with paired palmettes, flower wreaths or bilaterally symmetric stem and small palmette arrays. No cartoon was used in the weaving as clearly indicated by the wide irregularities in both size and shape of the individual sections. Definitely a rustic production in somebody’s household rather than a quality-controlled workshop. Abashed red palmette main border.
