Product Details
Extra pile borders at each end add to the sense of luxurious rarity on this NW Anatolian finely woven city carpet. Rug weaving was revived in earnest in Hereke, near Istanbul, in the 1960’s and this ultra precise room size shows what the best of them can do. The old ivory field is closely patterned with a small repeating ogival lattice enclosing flowers and plants in a 19th century Kurdish style. Cypresses add a note of rigour to the general floral infills. The palette is lighter than the much more saturated Kurdish prototypes. Sky blue border with split arabesques. Beautiful, subtle carpet in top condition. .
